Trump Selects VP Candidate with Strong Support for Trucking Industry
Former President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be his vice presidential running mate. Vance, in his second year as Ohio’s junior senator, has a history of supporting legislation favorable to the trucking industry.
As a co-sponsor of the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act (S.1034), Vance advocated for allocating funds to create safe parking spots for trucks and improve existing truck parking areas. Additionally, he co-sponsored the DRIVE Act (S.2671), which aims to prevent the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) from enforcing regulations that would require large commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) involved in interstate commerce to be equipped with speed limiting devices.
Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, Vance took office on January 3, 2023. He is a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Iraq War and later graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School. Vance is also the author of the bestselling book “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was adapted into a Netflix movie.
